Domani, 18 febbraio, Josep Carreras offrirà il primo concerto delle tre date che lo tratterranno in Australia ancora per una decina di giorni: si esibirà all'ICC Sydney accompagnato dal soprano australiano Antoinette Halloran e l'Orchestra Sinfonica di Melbourne sarà diretta da David Giménez.

In vista di questo concerto, mercoledì si è svolta la conferenza stampa presso lo Shangri-La Hotel: visibilmente in forma e di buon umore, il tenore ha rinnovato le proprie intenzioni di proseguire il suo ultimo tour mondiale, A Life in Music, ancora per un paio d'anni, nella consapevolezza che anche la sua carriera professionale dovrà giungere al termine, anche se la nostalgia è già un sentimento tangibile.
Profondamente grato alla musica per quello che gli ha regalato nella sua vita, ritiene inoltre di lasciare il mondo dell'opera in buone mani, confidando nella presenza abbondante di voci straordinarie e grandi artisti, così che potrà godere di quelle opportunità che in 50 anni di carriera non ha potuto cogliere, e fare alcune di quelle cose che ancora relativamente giovane, salute permettendo, potrà ancora fare.
Della magnifica esperienza con i Luciano Pavarotti e Plácido Domingo ricorda il privilegio di aver potuto far parte di questo gruppo, affiancando due dei più grandi tenori della storia dell'opera, con i quali ha condiviso una relazione straordinaria anche a livello personale.
Per quanto riguarda il canto ha ribadito l'importanza del cantare legato attraverso le vocali, che per questo sono essenziali, nonostante anche le consonanti abbiano la loro importanza.
In merito alle critiche ironizza, parafrasando Herbert von Karajan, che se si crede a quelle positive bisogna credere anche a quelle negative, quindi tanto vale non credere: più seriamente parlando, parte sempre dal presupposto che siano ben intenzionate, quindi le considera parte del gioco.
Si spazia nel racconto dal ricordo ancora vivo della madre persa prematuramente, alla tenerezza e all'affetto per i cinque nipoti, con cui ultimamente trascorre quelli che definisce i momenti più belli, che gli riempiono la vita.
Infine, se immaginasse un finale per la sua carriera, sarebbe l'ultimo atto di Carmen.

Tomorrow, February 18, Josep Carreras will offer the first concert of the three dates that will keep him in Australia for ten days: ICC Sydney will be accompanied by the Australian soprano Antoinette Halloran, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by David Giménez .
Prior to this event to be followed by Perth (22 February) and Melbourne (25 February), on Wednesday the press conference was held at the Shangri-La Hotel, and the tenor renewed his intention to continue his final world tour, A Life in Music, for a couple of years more, fully aware that his career has to come to an end, even if he already feels a bit of nostalgia.
Deeply grateful to music for what it gave him in his life, he thinks that he is going to leave the opera world in good hands, trusting in the big amount of magnific voices and great artists, so that he will be finally be able to enjoy those opportunities he has missed for 50 years, and do some of those things that, still relatively young and good health allowing it, will still be able to do.
He recalls the magnificent experience with Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo by mentioning the privilege of being part of this group, alongside two of the greatest tenors in the history of opera, with whom he shared a special relationship at a personal level as well.
As far as opera singing is concerned, he emphazises the importance of legato technique through vowel sounds, which are essential for this reason, despite consonants also have their importance too.
Furthermore, he joked about critics, paraphrasing Herbert von Karajan, and said that if you believe in good ones you must consider negative ones too, and so it's worth not believing. More seriously speaking, he states that he always starts from the assumption that critics is well-intentioned, so nothing to say, they are part of the game.
Moreover, he mentions both the still vivid memory of his mother, whom he lost prematurely aged 18, and his tenderness and affection for his five grandchildren, whom he spends with what he defines as the most beautiful moments.
Finally, if he had to imagine the end of his career, that would be the last act of Carmen.
